Motherboard: The Nervous System of The Computer

The computer we use is made up of different components that all plays different roles and parts. All of which are important in making the computer work. These components also work hand in hand to make the computer function.

One of a computer’s components is the motherboard. The motherboard is the primary circuit board that makes up the computer. To keep it simple, the motherboard serves as the nervous system to brain of the computer known as the CPU.

The motherboard is an important component of a computer. This is because as the nervous system of the computer, it serves as a way fro the CPU to communicate with the other components. The motherboard carries the signals of the CPU to other components for it to function.

The motherboard also serves as a circuit board that connects all the other components of the computer. The sound cards, the video cards, the IDE hard drive, etc are all plugged in the motherboard’s different slots and connectors. The CPU or the brain of the computer is also plugged into the motherboard through a socket or slot.

The motherboard itself also has lots of parts to consider. The bus speed, the chipset, the hardware support, the onboard components and the cooling fan are the parts of the motherboard.

The fastest bus speed a motherboard currently has is 800MHz through the Pentium IV. While the bus speed of the Athlon XP CPU’s have a bus speed of 400MHz.

An important to consider in the motherboard is the chipset. The chipset contains the motherboard’s basic instructions and features.

Hardware is another important component. The hardware support is important because it is important that the motherboard supports the hardware you plug in. The hardware support is determined by the chipset. Chipsets include the number of slots for expansion of memory, number of PCI slots, USB and Firewire ports, LAN, audio, etc. The USB 2.0 ports and Firewire comes in handy for connecting other peripherals.

It is quite important to see if the motherboard has a cooling fan on the chipset to prevent overheating. Overheating could happen more because as speeds increase, the chipsets become more complex.

Motherboards usually have similar costs. The cost of the motherboard usually depends on the chipset being used. Get a motherboard that can last you for quite some time, make sure that it can support those newer versions of CPU.

Try not to immediately buy a motherboard that has new chipsets. This is to make sure that the motherboard you will be getting is of great quality.
